Mythological Contests, and the Events.

CHALLENGE CONTESTS! In the challenge contest, a hero is challenged by one of equal or lower status to a contest in a specific event. The challenger is usually defeated, and often killed by the hero. In a contest, the goal for a simple victory can spiral into a struggle for more serious stakes, often because of an attack by the challenger.

FESTIVAL CONTESTS! A festival contest is another form of Mythical sport and the idea of contest. In a festival contest games are held to honor a god, a deceased hero, or a guest, or take place to mark a military victory.

The pentathlon consists of five events: foot racing, wrestling, broad jump, throwing, and boxing. Taunting Odysseus, one of the competitors said that he did'nt look like an athlete and once the challenge is laid down, Odysseus must show them that he is indeed an athlete. He threw a discus which landed a farther distance beyond the discuses of all of the other competitors, thus winning the contest.

The many accounts of Mythical sports may all be classified by their formal narrative contexts but ultimately, their common significance lies in the theme of contest itself.

The contest may closely resemble a duel, except in a duel, the object is killing or taking the power from the opponent.
