Long jump in Ancient Greece was very similar to today's long hymp. The only big difference was that back then the jumper held two halters [cone shaped weights]. When the jumper was about to land they released the halters backwards so they would achieve a further jump.
The stadiun was the biggest event in the pentathlon. The winner of this even was usually the one who was remembered in the times to come. This even consisted of four different categories. 1. Stade [about 192m] 2. Diavlus [2 stades] 3. Dolhius [7-24 stades] 4. Oplitis [1 stade with full armor]
The discus today and back then are almost alike. The only difference is that the discus back then weighed from 1.3 kg to 5.5 kg. Today men's discus weighs 2 kg.
The javelin throw consisted of three categories. 1. Free Throw [Going for distance] 2. Target [Throwing at a target] 3. Throwing while moving [Throwin while on a horse] Today only the first catergory is used in the Olympics.
Wrestling has not changed at all since ancient times and now. Same rules apply and the purpose is the same. => No biting or striking the opponent. =>One is victorious when the opponent acknowledges their defeat by raising a hand or being thrown to the ground three times.
The pentathlon consisted of five events that were believed to be useful in battle. A pentathlete was considered a highly skilled athlete.
